"Statuesque Heart" My hands were not made, To soften stony hearts, Though I try, again and again, Rinsing bloody knuckles, Under a fountain of salty tears, Wondering why, why it must be, That people would deny themselves, Love and happiness, this gift so free, But then I remember: Hearts are hardened to be softened, And the softened are to be made stronger, In their courage to give into hope, And to believe in the realities, Of the rest from the pain of this world, And the means in which comfort does flow, Into the stony & cautious, yet yearning hearts, That chooses to Love and let go. ©Mary Spotted Eagle Woman Roberts I was talking to a friend today that I hadn't talked to in a while, and their guarded nature was a bit off-putting, I try not to take it too personally though. I don't expect a complete emotional dump, however, that distinct feeling that someone is keeping you at arms-length can kind of sting, especially if you are keen on them & enjoy their conversation. Then it had me thinking about hearts and how they can be hardened towards someone.
The most famous of hard hearts, I guess would be Pharaoh when Moses told him that God wished for his people to leave Egypt. God hardened Pharaoh's heart until the worst happened to him and then Pharaoh caved. I don't think with my, friend, it is that degree of a hardened heart towards me, but I was reminded that it was God who can harden hearts and soften them; I mean it only makes sense considering we are His hand crafted creations, He'd know what moves us. And I guess, there is solace in that, because I can let them go into His hands to choose to soften the heart of whoever I see burdened with a stony disposition, for He is capable. :) ~Mary S.E.W.
